Born in August 1950, Bob McDowell was one of two siblings adopted by two
professional parents. Raised in San Francisco, Bob excelled in music; starting to
take piano lessons at the age of 5, he achieved such a level of competence that by
the time he graduated from high school he had already been accepted to The Julliard
School of Music in New York.

Unfortunately, McDowell was drafted into the Army in June 1970. Taking advantage of
the on-base educational opportunities the Army offered, Bob completed his
undergraduate degree in criminal justice and his graduate degree in clinical
counseling, and worked in the behavioral sciences field during much of his military
career.
